Banner Human Resources Go Live

What is this new Human Resources (HR) moedule?  It is part of an integrated computing application suite that not only includes Human Resources, but also includes Finance, Financial Aid, and Student modules.  The University is replacing the current mainframe based versions of these systems with the updated relational database system from SunGard SCT called Banner. Here is what you can expect from the new Banner HR module beginning April 2006.

Go Live 04.01.06

Payroll

Yes, you’ll be happy to learn that one of our highest priority items was to make sure that we could process payroll and cut payroll checks!  There are lots of details behind the scenes on this one….  The team is working to ensure that all deduction codes, all earnings codes, and all variations on benefits are configured and installed correctly.  The first paycheck in April 2006 will be generated from the new module.
Position Control Very closely related to the set-up of payroll is the establishment of position control.  Migrating our existing positions and position budgets into the new system rules and configuration required some tweaks and changes.  We have more detailed groupings of employees which will allow for more detailed reporting.
Reporting A new Operational Data Store (ODS) will be used for many of our reporting needs.  Our reporting team is prioritizing existing HR reports and will be recreating these over time to place in our new Web reporting library.  Our existing data warehouse will not be populated with new data as each module is converted; however, it will continue to be available for historical reporting.  Between the new Web reporting library and our capability to continue to place reports into our ePrint repository.

...and beyond 04.01.06

Self-Service A great new feature that will be available to employees is the employee self service component of Banner!  Via the Web and myUT web portal, employees will be able to view individual information on items such as sick and vacation leave balances, pay information including earnings and deduction history, and pay stubs.  In addition, benefit data such as past and future changes to benefit data and year-to-date information, campus directory information, and finally job information relating to current and previous positions held at the University.
Web Time Entry Students and temporary hourly employees will be able to complete their “time cards” on-line with supervisors performing on-line approvals, as well.  We are looking at a pilot for this beginning with Summer term 2006.
On-line Personnel Action Forms Banner also has the capability to allow on-line Personnel Action and Authorization to Hire forms with appropriate on-line approvals.  Our hope is to eliminate paper forms and streamline the process in 2006.
Salary Planner During merit increase time, we may be able to take advantage of Banner’s capability to provide on-line access to merit pools and processing.
Self-Service Expanded As we get more comfortable with the setup and capabilities of self service for employees we will be able to add up-date capability during the benefit open enrollment period, and on other personal information.
Other HR
 features
Other items we are exploring include applicant tracking, performance review management, health and safety management, and other general HR functionality.
