myUT Web Portal - Technical Workgroup

The technical workgroup ensures that the necessary toolkits for a successful portal deployment are installed and functional.


Task list

  • Single signon via the UTAD account credentials

  • Integration with existing Web for Students, Web for Faculty and Advisers, and WebCT applications

  • Links to, or channels for, UTNet email and calendars

  • Installation, configuration, and tuning of the production portal system

  • Stress testing and load analysis

Email and calendaring in the myUT portal

The Luminis software on which the myUT portal is based comes with an email and calendaring solution, part of the Sun ONE infrastructure and formerly known as Netscape iPlanet. SunGard SCT consultants strongly recommended that since we have in place at the University an enterprise-wide email and calendaring solution based on the Microsoft Exchange product that we use Exchange instead of the Sun tools. In a similar fashion we have opted to use the existing UTAD directory services and accounts as the single signon mechanism for the myUT portal. An explanation of the recommendation to use Exchange for email and calendaring is available in both Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF formats.
